What this means in real life
After taking a strong antibiotic course, someone experiences persistent bloating, irregular bowel movements, and food sensitivities for weeks—their gut bacteria haven't yet recovered their healthy balance.
What it isn’t
It is not simply having an upset stomach or temporary indigestion. Dysbiosis is a persistent structural imbalance in bacterial populations, not a one-off digestive complaint or food poisoning.
Commonly misused online
Social media often treats it as a catch-all diagnosis for any digestive discomfort, or claims unproven supplements can 'cure' it overnight, when actual dysbiosis requires medical assessment and may take weeks to rebalance.
