Dispersal Mechanism
A strategy or structure an organism uses to spread its offspring, seeds, or spores to new locations—like wind carrying dandelion seeds or fungi manipulating insect behavior.

What this means in real life
A dandelion produces fluffy, parachute-like seeds that catch the wind and drift far from the parent plant, allowing it to spread across a lawn or field without competing with its siblings for water and nutrients.
What it isn’t
It is not simply the act of seeds falling to the ground near the parent plant. True dispersal involves transport to a *new location* away from the parent; seeds dropping straight down do not constitute effective dispersal.
Commonly misused online
Often conflated with 'seed dispersal' alone, when the term actually applies to any organism's offspring or propagules—including animal larvae, spores, and even some animals' own movement strategies.
